Fluke Network Cable Tester, 20h Battery Life, 300g Weight - MS-POE

This network cable tester is a handheld verifier designed to assess copper twisted-pair installations and Power over Ethernet (PoE) delivery in industrial and commercial networks. It provides a single-screen readout of cable length, wiring map and distance-to-fault, and reports PoE class and voltage to help technicians quickly establish service availability and port capability on Active and inActive links.

Features & Benefits

• Reports PoE class 0–8 for Rapid power capability assessment
• Detects Ethernet port speeds up to 10G to identify link capacity
• Measures cable length to 460m with 0.3m resolution for fault localisation
• Wiremap detects shorts, opens, miswires and split pairs for accurate troubleshooting
• Generates IntelliTone digital and analogue tones to pinpoint cables with a probe
• Runs on 2AA alkaline cells providing 20h typical battery life for prolonged use

Applications

• Suitable for commissioning PoE-powered devices in automation systems
• Ideal for verifying RJ45 and RJ11 wiring in electrical installations
• Used for fault finding on plant and machinery network cabling
• Can be used for pre-deployment checks of 10G-capable Ethernet links
• Used with tone probes to trace cables in telecom cabinets and ceilings

Which connector types does it accept for testing?

It accepts shielded 8-pin modular jacks and 4-pin modular plugs, supporting RJ45 and RJ11 terminations.

How does the instrument indicate distance to a cable fault?

The tester displays a proportional wiremap with distance estimates and provides a numeric length measurement based on a user-set NVP or determined NVP.

What environmental conditions can it operate within?

It is rated for operation from 0°C to 45°C and is specified to withstand 1m drops and random vibration at 2g across 5–500Hz.

Which power-over-Ethernet standards will it detect?

It solicits and identifies 802.3af, 802.3at, 802.3bt and Cisco UPOE compatible PoE sources.

What weight and display features support field working?

The unit weighs 300g with batteries and features a monochrome LCD with backlight for visibility in low-light areas.
