What's the difference between a short circuit and an overload?


A short circuit is an unintended direct connection between conductors that causes a sudden flow of current, often due to damaged wiring. An overload results from excessive current drawn over time, usually because there are too many devices on a single circuit. This poses a fire hazard as it overheats circuits.
