Since joining RS 25 years ago, Brian has led the successful transformation of the business into a customer‑centric, digitally enabled organisation, positioning RS as a leading B2B eCommerce and industrial solutions provider in South Africa. He has a proven track record of turning around underperforming businesses, building strong leadership teams and creating sustainable, profitable growth. As a member of the Emerging Markets Leadership Team, he plays a key role in shaping regional strategy while maintaining a strong focus on people, culture and long‑term value creation.
Brian’s leadership philosophy centres on inspiring others through action, accountability and trust. He is deeply committed to building healthy organisations that prioritise the wellbeing of employees, customers, suppliers and the communities they serve. His approach integrates performance, purpose and connection, recognising that sustainable success is built on strong relationships at every level.
In addition to his business leadership credentials, Brian is a certified Situational Leadership Trainer, Working Genius practitioner and Whole Brain Profiling practitioner. He is also an ambassador for The Noakes Foundation and an advocate for holistic health and wellbeing, which he views as essential to effective leadership.

Dr Abdullah Verachia

Globally recognised strategist, entrepreneur and academic advising leaders on strategy and disruption. CEO of The Strategists, faculty head at GIBS and bestselling author, known for blending foresight with execution across sectors globally.
Abdullah Verachia is a globally recognised strategist, entrepreneur, and academic. He is CEO of The Strategists, Faculty Head of Strategy, Sustainability, and Digital at GIBS Business School, and Programme Director for the Harvard Senior Executive Programme for Africa. With deep experience advising leading corporates and governments across sectors.
Abdullah is renowned for blending foresight, strategy, and execution in disruptive contexts. He is the author of ESCAPED: Strategy in a Disruptive World and has delivered keynotes and facilitated strategy sessions in more than 60 cities globally. He has also been awarded the excellence in teaching award, as voted by staff and students at GIBS, for a number of consecutive years.
Abdullah authored the best-selling book Disruption Amplified: Reset, rewire, reimagine everything and has co-authored 6 other books. He has been asked to present at some of the world’s leading institutions including the School of Public and International Affairs at Colombia University in New York, Tedx Euston in London, the OECD in Paris and Casa Asia in Madrid amongst others.
He is a Harvard Business school alumnus. He holds a PhD in strategy, a Bachelors in Law and a Masters in Management (cum laude). He has also completed executive programmes on strategy and shared value and also on Competitiveness, with Professor Michael Porter’s Institute of Strategy and Competitiveness, at Harvard Business School. He also completed an executive programme at University of Oxford’s Said Business School as well as an executive programme on broadcast technology at Columbia Business School.
Erick Wessels
Sales Director, RS South Africa
With a background spanning field service, sales management and executive leadership, Erick brings a practical, market‑driven perspective on MRO, customer needs and the commercial realities shaping industrial operations today. He is the Sales Director at RS South Africa and a seasoned commercial leader with extensive experience in the industrial and MRO sectors across South Africa and Sub‑Saharan Africa.
With a career spanning nearly two decades, he brings a practical, market‑driven perspective shaped by hands‑on technical experience and senior leadership roles within global organisations.Erick began his career in field service engineering, which gave him a strong operational foundation and a clear understanding of the realities faced on the plant floor.
He later transitioned into sales and commercial leadership roles at Thermo Fisher Scientific and Fluke Corporation, where he built deep expertise in managing complex portfolios, regional markets and customer relationships within highly regulated and performance‑driven environments.
At RS South Africa, Erick is a member of the Executive Management Team and plays a key role in shaping commercial strategy, driving sustainable growth and developing high‑performing sales teams. His leadership approach is firmly rooted in customer centricity, data‑informed decision‑making and long‑term partnership building, with a strong focus on execution and accountability.
Erick is known for his ability to translate market insight into actionable strategies that deliver measurable results. At RS Connect, he will share perspectives on the current state of MRO, the trends influencing the sector, and practical considerations organisations should prioritise to remain competitive in an increasingly complex industrial landscape.
Andrea Barrett
Chief Sustainability Officer, RS Group
Andrea is responsible for leading the Group’s ESG strategy, embedding sustainability and social responsibility into the heart of the business and the value we create for our stakeholders. She has over 20 years’ experience in mobilising global organisations, including Tesco, Centrica and the Red Cross, to integrate sustainability into core business, deliver their ESG ambitions and drive more value for people, planet and profit.
She is also a responsible business leader with over 20 years’ experience developing sustainability and social impact strategies, leading teams and delivering global engagement programmes with household names including Tesco, Centrica / British Gas and the British Red Cross.
Her experience covers a broad ESG agenda including net zero & climate change, diversity & inclusion, community and education and corporate-charity partnerships. She is passionate about purpose-driven business and the additional value that can be created for all stakeholders when people, planet and profit agendas are aligned.
Andrea Barrett is VP of Social Responsibility and Sustainability at RS Group plc. RS Group is the leading global omni-channel industrial product and service solutions provider to customers who are involved in designing, building and maintaining industrial equipment and operations, safely and sustainably.
Andrea joined RS in January 2021 to step change its Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance (ESG) approach, and ensure ESG is at the heart of the Group’s purpose, strategy and the way they do business. She mobilised the business to develop and launch the Group’s 2030 ESG Action Plan – For a Better World in November 2021, which includes four global goals and 15 supporting actions by 2030. Advancing sustainability is one of those global goals and the Group has made a commitment to be net zero in its direct operations by 2030 as well as wider environmental goals around reducing packaging, waste and its logistics footprint. Andrea has led the development of the Group’s new sustainable product range – Better World products and supported the drive for these to be packaged and distributed more sustainably.
Andrea is from the UK and lives with her husband and two young children in Great Missenden, Buckinghamshire. She has a passion for outdoor adventures whether its paddle boarding down the Thames or going up and down mountains!
De Wet Joubert

With more than 26 years of leadership experience at RS South Africa, De Wet Joubert is a seasoned operations strategist known for driving innovation, operational excellence, and customer‑centric transformation across industrial environments. As Operations & Strategic Projects Director, he plays a pivotal role in shaping RS’s long‑term capability, supply chain resilience, and the ongoing optimisation of maintenance, repair and operations (MRO) procurement.
De Wet brings a unique blend of analytical rigour, strategic foresight, and people‑first leadership, strengthened by an MBA from the Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS) and professional accreditation as a Certified Director (IoDSA).
His background spans continuous improvement, productivity transformation, B2B eCommerce and leading large‑scale operational change, making him a recognised voice on the future of industrial performance. A certified Lean Six Sigma Green Belt and Innovation Coach, De Wet is passionate about enabling teams and customers to unlock real productivity gains through collaboration, technology adoption, and smarter process design.
