    Engineers Without Borders South Africa

Engineers Without Borders South Africa is re-envisioning South Africa's engineering sector as a space where individuals can live their passion, unfold their potential, and work with compassion. They achieve this by activating, generating, using, and transferring engineering knowledge that benefits society.

EWB-SA’s efforts are concentrated on programs that enhance capacity in the engineering sector, portfolios that amplify the voices of young engineers, and projects through which student chapters make a meaningful impact in communities.

RS South Africa has been working closely with EWB-SA, delivering our Super Skills workshops to the student chapters and supporting the organisation's student final presentations, where students receive fantastic prizes and recognition for their solutions and designs.

    Tuks Robot School

The project, inspired by the popular Annual Third-Year Robot Race, was initiated at the start of 2021 with the aim of providing a platform through which EBIT students at the University of Pretoria (UP) can serve the community by offering engaging STEM education activities to school learners. The curriculum was designed by university staff in collaboration with postgraduate students and centers around low-cost hardware platforms with accessibility in mind. UP students actively contribute to creating the hardware and are involved in training junior community service students who, in turn, present the course content to the learners.

RS South Africa is an enthusiastic supporter of STEM education and is always thrilled to support such an exciting initiative developed by the university and its students to empower our future engineers.

University of Pretoria - Tuks Robot Race Day

The Tuks Robot Race Day at the University of Pretoria is an annual competition where student teams design and race Microcontroller-based Autonomous Robotic Vehicles (MARVs). RS South Africa, a dedicated sponsor for five years, supplies essential components and prizes. The event is a highly anticipated, crowd-drawing showcase of innovation. RS South Africa's commitment extends to providing essential components, nurturing hands-on experience for future engineers.

    University of Cape Town

Final-year and master's students from the University of Cape Town's (UCT) Electrical Engineering Department are always excited to embark on a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) outreach project at high schools in Cape Town. The project focuses on themes of sustainability and e-Mobility, providing a glimpse into the exciting possibilities within these fields. RS South Africa is proud to collaborate with UCT in supporting its STEM High School Outreach Programme. This initiative aims to encourage students to choose engineering as their preferred career path. Additionally, the company supports networking and work readiness programs to ensure students are well-prepared to embark on their careers, equipped with the necessary skills.

Tshwane University of Technology - Sunchaser

Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) showcases a cutting-edge solar car, crafted by skilled students. The inaugural SunChaser debuted in 2014, establishing TUT's prominence in electric vehicle and solar voltaic technology. SunChaser 3, revealed in 2018, ranked fourth globally and clinched the top spot nationally in the Sasol Solar Car Challenge.

In June 2021, the team introduced SunChaser 4, gearing up for the 2023 Ilanga Cup. Students across academic levels collaborate in disciplines like Industrial Design, Marketing, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering, and Electrical Engineering, working closely with lecturers to innovate and develop the solar car's technology.

RS South Africa proudly collaborates, offering sponsorship and supporting students with SuperSkills workshops. We are eager to continue backing the SunChaser Team.

    Team South Africa - Cybathlon

CYBATHLON, a non-profit project of ETH Zurich, acts as a platform that challenges teams from all over the world to develop assistive technologies suitable for everyday use with and for people with disabilities. The driving force behind CYBATHLON is international competitions and events in which teams consisting of technology developers from universities, companies or NGOs and a person with disabilities tackle various everyday tasks with their latest assistive technologies. The participants with physical disabilities show how to tie shoelaces with a robotic arm prosthesis, balance on rocks with a prosthetic leg or overcome uneven terrain with an exoskeleton.

South Africa will be represented at the 2024 event through a collaboration between three universities which include University of Kwa-Zulu Natal, Nelson Mandela University and North-West University. RS South Africa are proud to be supporting the teams with much need components and equipment to assist in developing these assistive technologies.
