Plastic Pipes

PVC pipes are non-toxic and are most commonly used for plumbing and drainage. They've fast become the replacement material for lead and metal piping, such as threaded steel, copper and aluminium pipes. PVC has many benefits over traditional metal pipework. Its strength and durability along with low cost and easy installation has made it the go to material for use in water based plumbing jobs. The smooth surface of PVC pipe results in an efficient flow rate and reduces pumping costs and energy use. PVC is easy to machine, cut and connect allowing close tolerances to be achieved with either push fit or threaded compression style fittings and can be used with PVC cement for added strength. When used with leak-free PVC fittings water loss is eliminated.

What is the Difference between PVC and PVC-U Pipe?

PVC stands for Polyvinyl Chloride and is a type of plastic that includes plasticisers that make it softer and more flexible. PVC-U stands for Unplasticised Polyvinyl Chloride which does not contain plasticiser making it more rigid and durable than standard PVC.

PVC pipe is flexible, durable and resistant to sunlight, oxidation, corrosion and various chemicals.

Applications

PVC pipe is ideal for use in pipework applications involved in conveying non-potable water in irrigation systems, plumbing systems and pool circulation systems.

Benefits of PVC-U Pipe

PVC-U pipe is rigid and less flexible than PVC pipe and, as a result, more durable. This pipe has a high resistance to chemicals and corrosion and is both fire resistant and recyclable. PVC-U pipe can be used at temperature ranges of 0°C to 60°C at a wide range of operating pressures and has excellent thermal and insulating properties. Some PVC-U pipe is WRAS (Water Regulations Advisory Scheme) approved.

PVC-U Pipe Applications

PVC-U pipe, due to its strength and high resistance to chemicals and corrosion, is often used in plumbing, drainage and sewage applications. The high chemical resistance of this pipe means that it is ideal for the safe transportation of acids, alkalis and chemical concentrates without the risk of corrosion and environmental pollution.
