Safety Contactors

Safety contactors are a type of safety relay, designed to ensure that if there is a fault either externally or within a device, the circuit will remain safe. They monitor functions in the circuit and react to faults, often by stopping or preventing the movement of parts.

How do safety contactors work?

Safety contactors are devices used for risk reduction in industrial settings. They work by switching the power in an electronic circuit, usually by breaking the circuit with electrical contacts. When a fault is detected, they will isolate the function they are monitoring, preventing it from continuing to work.

Each safety contactor measures a specific function, and there is usually a whole network of interconnected safety contactors working together to minimise risk.

Types of safety contactors

Safety contacts can vary by design in a number of different ways. This includes the number of contacts, their current and voltage rating, and their dimensions, which can vary quite significantly.
